Copper Mill Elementary School/Outdoor Classroom

Holly and Smith Architects approached Dufreche-Perkins & Associates with a request to provide design input for an outdoor student area built over an existing retention pond, for use as a hands-on classroom area. Additionally, our firm provided Construction Documents for this facility. Our firm produced comprehensive plans for the construction of a facility to provide students with a safe and focused environment to explore the natural setting of the pond area. Terraced outdoor seating was incorporated into the banks of the pond, as well as barrier free access from the entry area to the classroom area. A planting plan was produced which incorporated native flora into a “natural” layout, intended to have the feel of a naturally occurring landscape.
